We made some delicious cider & pies out of the apples we've picked...

last update: July 30, 2004

There were 535 games nominated in 43 categories... when you eliminate repeat nominations, it boils down to 291 different games nominated.

Of those 291 games, 124 games walked away with one or more finish in the top five of a category.

The eight games with the most finishes in the Top Fives were:

  • 6 - The Settlers of Catan (includes expansions)
  • 5 - Bohnanza
  • 5 - Can't Stop
  • 4 - Carabande
  • 4 - Carcassonne
  • 4 - Cosmic Encounter
  • 4 - Die Macher
  • 4 - For Sale

The twelve games with the most nominations were:

  • 7 - The Settlers of Catan (includes expansions)
  • 6 - Bohnanza
  • 6 - Can't Stop
  • 6 - Diplomacy
  • 5- 18xx & family
  • 5- Carabande
  • 5- Carcassonne
  • 5- Civilization/Advanced Civilization
  • 5- Mississippi Queen
  • 5- Starfarers of Catan
  • 5- Take It Easy
  • 5- Wildlife Adventure/Terra X/Expedition

Only four games received 90% or more of the possible votes in a particular category:

  • Acquire (in the Sid Sackson category)
  • Bohnanza (in the Negotiation with Trading category)
  • Can't Stop (in the Dice category)
  • The Settlers of Catan (in both the Klaus Teuber and the Negotiation with Trading categories)

You could do a whole lot worse than make a game night out of these four classics. (BTW, no game received 100% of the votes in it's category.)

When the Project participants were asked to list their personal Top Ten Games, the top nine were:

  • Euphrat & Tigris - 15 votes
  • Puerto Rico - 12 votes
  • Settlers of Catan - 11 votes
  • El Grande - 10 votes
  • Cosmic Encounter - 9 votes
  • Princes of Florence - 8 votes
  • San Marco - 6 votes
  • Bohnanza - 5 votes
  • Mu & Mehr - 5 votes

There were 13 games with 4 votes each... for more information about the participants and some insight into their personal top ten lists, check out the The Participants page on this website.

Look, there's a lot more number-crunching and post-game analysis to come - but I wanted to get the website up and running. Keep watching for more pies here on the shelf.
